There may not be a WWE Mayhem! It may happen right here!
Actually, with apologies to Gorilla Monsoon, that’s not true. There will be a WWE Mayhem, and it won’t happen right here. It’ll happen sometime in the near future on iOS.
Reliance Games—a leading publisher of free-to-play games that often involve two things punching each other—has announced a multi-year agreement with WWE to develop WWE Mayhem for mobile devices. The game will feature WWE superstars in arcade action with over-the-top signature moves that will be enhanced by unlockable content when used in conjunction with items from a forthcoming Mattel action figure line.
So, kind of like WWE Amiibos, I’m guessing. I guess I’m cool with that. In my younger days I would’ve totally owned a little Mr. Perfect NFC dude. Too old for that now, though, and he just wouldn’t like right standing next to Ike, Celica, and the rest of the Fire Emblem gang.
Back to the matter at hand, WWE Mayhem will allow players to take control of WWE’s most popular Legends, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Goldberg, as well as the current roster of fan-favorites, such as John Cena, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
Hopefully we get a more expansive roster soon. The press release includes nothing about potential release date, so we may be some distance from a full reveal. And if the game does well, we can likely expect plenty of DLC wrestlers.
We’ll let you know more as details are announced.
