Super Mario Run for iPhone, this holiday season
Shigeru Miyamoto on stage at an Apple event. Had I been in the audience this time, I would’ve likely exploded right there in my seat.
Shigeru Miyamoto, Creative Fellow at Nintendo Co., Ltd., is the creator of some of the best loved and instantly recognizable video games and characters of all time, including Mario. As such, it only makes sense that he would be on hand at today’s Apple media event to unveil Super Mario Run for iOS.
Before we get another further, let’s all celebrate the fact that it will not be free to play.
Super Mario Run is, as you’d expect, a left-to-right runner. There are countless similar games in the iTunes App Store, but Super Mario Run will come with a few twists and a level of polish that is synonymous with the Nintendo name. In the core single player version, you’ll tap the screen to make Mario jump, and timing will be key to your success. There’s also a multiplayer battle called Toad Rally in which you’ll take on a live opponent.
Of course, no game comes to iOS without some level of customization, so you’ll also have the opportunity to deck out your own Mushroom Kingdom using the coins you’ve collected in the single and multiplayer modes.
The price for the game hasn’t been announced, but it’ll be worth it. It’s Mario, after all, and it’s Nintendo. We’ll have more on Super Mario Run as details become available.
