iOS gamers can now explore The Galaxy of Trian
[July 1, 2016: Updated to reflect price drop.]
I have never played the board game version of Galaxy of Trian, but if Piotr Zygadlo—studio director on the iOS version—is to be believed, creating the digital version “hasn’t been easy.” Good thing, then, the developers at Grey Wizard Innovative are fans of board games, because you know they’re going to take the time to do it right (and price the game accordingly).
Galaxy of Trian, a digital board game based on the popular tile-based sci-fi game of the same name, is now available for iOS.
The digital version takes familiar elements from the board game to provide tour based strategy gaming in both single and multiplayer modes.
Galaxy of Trian is a fast-paced digital boardgame about space exploration and control. During the game, players take command over one of a few opposing races fighting over a territory and technology left by a powerful race called Trian. Players take turns exploring and claiming the tiles that make up the board, allowing the placement of stations and collection of precious minerals. By upgrading stations and performing various other tasks, players collect points towards a pre-designated total to win the game.
Part of the reason I haven’t played the board game is because I’m generally pretty awful at games like this. Good thing, then, that there’s a single player campaign to help newcomers figure things out and play when their friends aren’t available. Although, in that regard, multiplayer features a “correspondence mode” in which players can take as long as they need for their turn without feeling tied to the game. I kind of wish Risk had that feature.
The Galaxy of Trian is now available in the App Store for $4.99. Free DLC is already in the works, as well as PC and Android versions that will provide cross-platform functionality.
