Brave Frontier gets a Shin Megami Tensei IV crossover

gumi, Inc. love themselves a good crossover, and they’re at it again with their popular (30 million downloads) iOS RPG Brave Frontier. This time around, players will be crossing paths with characters from Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, which is coming to Nintendo 3DS on September 20th.

Through October 5th, 2016, collaboration exclusive Vortex dungeons will be opened to provide players the chance to recruit Lucifer, Merkabah, and Krishna from SMT4:A to their party. The collaboration will continue as a special Grand Quest is opened, giving players the chance to acquire Asahi, Nozomi and Flynn by completing objectives.

It doesn’t even in there. A special Facebook Share Milestone event will be run during the crossover period in which Brave Frontier players can work together to unlock Dagda and other milestone rewards!

Although the crossover originally struck me as coming from left field, it does make sense. Both games are popular and highly respected on their respective platforms, and there are surely many RPG fans who play both titles on their iPhone/Android and Nintendo devices.

Indeed, I’ve got my copy of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse preordered, and I consider the original Shin Megami Tensei IV one of the best RPGs I’ve played on the 3DS.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Shin Megami Tensei is a story-driven, turn-based RPG that sees you fighting, recruiting and fusing demons to build your custom army. The combat mechanics and collectable nature (there are over 450 demons in SMT4:A) would actually make for a great game on iOS, so perhaps Atlus is using this as a testing ground for mobile development.

As for Brave Frontier (which has over 400 heroes/beasts of its own), the App Store describes it thus:

Hundreds Of Heroes. Millions Of Players. Be A Legend Now!

Explore the land of Grand Gaia and save it from the evil hordes of the corrupted god Maxwell in this epic mobile role-playing game. As powerful summoners, you have the ability to conjure powerful demigods, brave warriors and majestic beasts to fight for you!

Brave Frontier is available now for free in the iTunes App Store, but with over 100 missions and a PvP arena, you know there’ll be plenty of chances to spend actual money.
