Banner Saga 2 launching April 19th
If you’re any sort of self-respecting role-playing strategy gamer, you surely spent quite a bit of time with Stoic’s Banner Saga a couple years ago. It was, after all, winner of the 2014 Geekie Awards for “Best Video Game,” winner of 2014 Game Developers Choice: “Best Debut” award, a finalist in the “Excellence in Visual Arts” category at the Independent Game Festival, winner of Pocket Gamer’s 2015 Best Adventure/RPG Game and Best Android Game of the Year, and received 3 BAFTA Award Nominations.
But that’s all in the past. Looking ahead, we’ve got Banner Saga 2 less than a month away, with surely more awards to follow.
We had a lengthy demo of the game at E3 2015, and can assure you that Banner Saga 2 looks to be every bit as engrossing as its predecessor. You’ll want to make sure you’ve played that, too (available for $19.99 at Steam), as the decisions you made in that game will carry over to the sequel.
Banner Saga 2 offers fans:
- Beautifully 2D hand drawn combat sequences and animations further enhanced with special effects, once again accompanied by an evocative score from Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory.
- Player choices that continue to drive your narrative.
- New characters and a new race: the Horseborn.
- Improved strategic combat with consequences.
- A role in building and managing your caravan as you travel the game’s vast landscape.
The Banner Saga 2 team has also revealed their plans for a showcase at PAX East from April 22nd through the 24th in Boston. In addition to having hands-on access to the game, players will be able to attend a panel on Saturday 23rd April from 10:30am – 11:30am in the Albatross Theatre.
The panel, which will be moderated by YouTube gaming personality Jesse Cox, will include development team members Arnie Jorgensen (Art Director), John Watson (Technical Director), Drew McGee (Writer) and Matt Rhoades (Tech Designer) as well as by Grammy nominated, two-time BAFTA winning composer Austin Wintory. The panelists will discuss the Banner Saga universe and also tease some of the great things that gamers can expect to experience in the newly released Banner Saga 2. The team will also show off the worldwide premier of the Banner Saga “In Memoriam” trailer created by Penny Arcade contributor Kris Straub. Finally, the first 100 panel attendees will receive a limited edition Banner Saga 2 t-shirt and Versus Evil and Stoic will also be handing out prizes to cosplayers who attend the event dressed in Banner Saga inspired costumes.
You hear that? Finally a chance to break out that old Viking costume you’ve just never been able to bring yourself to throw away.
There’ll be plenty more to get your hands on at PAX East, including a limited run paperback copy of the book “The Gift of Hadrborg” by James Fadeley, a limited edition Banner Saga 2 lanyard and various pins.
To everyone outside of Boston, what matters is the game and its pending release. To learn more about The Banner Saga and Banner Saga 2, visit bannersaga.com. Of course, you may just elect to get your pre-order in now at Steam. Both the standard and deluxe editions are 10% off through April 19th.
