Aspyr turns 20, Mac gamers get the presents
Some of you may be too young to remember, but I was around when Aspyr was but a babe, and they almost single handedly saved Mac gaming with the port of Tomb Raider II. That may not sound like much in these days of digital downloads, but at a time when you could only buy computer games in stores, and when the Mac sections of those stores had a dozen copies of Mario Teaches Typing and almost nothing else, suddenly finding the Mac version of a game as huge as Tomb Raider was a ray of light from the heavens.
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Aspyr is cascading many rays of light from the heavens, as their entire catalog is on sale from 50 to 85% off. That catalog includes titles such as:
- Borderlands of all shapes and sizes,
- many Calls of Duty,
- The Sims from when the The Sims was fun,
- something called Star Wars,
- Layers of Fear,
- things with Sid Meier’s name on it,
- that Duke Nukem fellow,
- all kinds of monkeys, geometry, roller coasters, and more.
If you’re a Steam sort of fellow, the sale lasts through Monday September 18th. That’s the place to go if you want to save up 85%. Those dedicated to the Mac App Store can only save up to 50%, but the sale there lasts through September 22nd.
If you’re not sure your Mac can handle some of the new games, there are two things to do. First, grab GameAgent and let it tell you for sure. Second, head to Aspyr’s Facebook page to enter the 20th Birthday Sweepstakes. One lucky fan will win a new iMac and a copy of every Aspyr game that’s available between now and the end of 2017. In fact, you can do it directly from here.
No matter whether you take advantage of the sale, enter the contest, or both, be sure to wish Aspyr well…and thank them.
