Layers of Fear

There are numerous reasons for Mac (and Linux) gamers to love Aspyr. There are actually many reasons for non-gamers to love them, too. They’re good people. Kind to their mothers. Likely to hold the elevator door for you if they’re not late for a meeting. Today’s reason to love them, though, is game related, as they’ve announced they’ll be releasing the psychological horror game Layers of Fear on February 16th.

Developed by Polish developer Bloober Team, Layers of Fear tells the story of a painter whose sole purpose is to finish his Magnum Opus. Seems like no big whoop, except he has to do so while navigating through a constantly changing Victorian-era mansion and ghastly visions of his fragile and crumbling psyche.

Artists. Am I right?

The Steam Early Access page, where you can get access to the game right now, has this to say about Layers of Fear:

Heavily inspired by the masterpiece paintings from the past centuries, and the architecture and décor from the XIX century. Layers of Fear is a truly unique experience, where each move of the camera can change your surroundings.

Layer by layer uncover the visions, fears and horrors that entwine the protagonist and finish the masterpiece he has strived so long to create.

Before too long, I expect we’ll have something to say about the game, too. But don’t wait for us, grab the afore linked Early Access version now, or just bide your time at www.layersoffear.com until its release.

is greatly looking forward to the day when he no longer cares about Apple, games, and gaming technology. But right now he does, and he loves to talk about them, just as he’s been doing on the web since 1998. He can otherwise be spotted as that one guy in Ohio wearing a Minnesota North Stars hockey sweater. Kirk has a wife and three kids, and is a generally happy fellow.
